On Wednesday November 18th, 2020, Dolomiti Contemporanee takes part in the online conference promoted by the Courmayeur Mont Blanc Foundation alpi partecipate. montagne in mostra (Participated alps. Mountains on display).

The speech by G. D’incà Levis, ideator and curator of dolomiti contemporanee, is titled Dolomiti Contemporanee, a creative reactivation strategy for heritage and territories.
the meeting is set for 5:30 PM on wednesday november 18th.

The conference focuses on the mountain environment as a place of cultural involvement. the workshop-like nature of the alps eases the cultural approaches of modernity, and the conference, with a new formula, designed to be enjoyed at a distance, proposes a few examples of them.

Three meetings spread out over three different evenings exploring, respectively, the regenerative actions of artistic installations and temporary exhibits in some symbolic locations inside the Dolomites, a cultural device meant for the civic participation inside a huge fort in the alto adige area and a contemporary art museum at the heart of the grisons.

They are places found in the alpine region, and they are characterised by a strong identity ‒ despite their location relative to major cities ‒ in which architecture takes on the role of an important instrument, useful to create a debate.

The widespread perception, during this complex period of human history, is that the mountain is a safe place from a health standpoint, as it allows for easy distancing.

A different audience ‒ typically used to frequenting other destinations ‒ and demanding from a cultural point of view as well, could then look at the alps as a way to search for new stimulation and enrichment.

Prometheus- Open Food Lab is a project whose aim is to generate, recover and redistribute knowledge […]

Prometheus- Open Food Lab is a project whose aim is to generate, recover and redistribute knowledge relating to food.
The eventulal goal is to support resilience in remote areas, starting from the secluded spaces of our mind.
Food isn’t just nourishment, a mere survival too. What interests us is, first and foremost, its function of social catalyst and cultural “supplement”. It is able to change the perpective with which we look at the world, it is capable of flipping over the frameworks of meaning that relegate places to remoteness. Remoteness as a mental state. We will explore these locations of the mind and culture as if they were another planet entirely. We’re transdimentional explorers in this space that is both virginal and yet already violated in the most intimate meaning of the word. We look for intelligent life forms that may be able to generate intelligent forms of life.
Intermittent memories of ancient civilizations tell us that there was life here, before ski resorts and tourism of intermittent people with no memory at all. The space was emptied by the heap of clichés which drags itself along the plains below its own tedious bulk, then crumbles and flattens like an avalanche. It presents itself naked, and ready to be filled, once more, in this vacation. There, where rock, lighter, soars towards the sky.
The question is, rather: are we ourselves ready or could be still be, when the only sensible thing to do will be to give a meaning, once more, to these remote places, which are actually close to us, because they are only remote in our mind? Will we still have ourselves meaning at that point, or will we be able to only rely on our senses? Too late, then, to be explorers?
Explorers, revolutionaries and spirits of times long gone refuse the plains and sense the weight of those places where gravity loses its intensity without making the steps of people wishing to climb on them lighter.
We will make these locations our base of operations, a launch pad of future, and plenty in number, explorations, thanks to Dolomiti Contemporanee, which has agreed to lend us the structures of Progettoborca to undertake our training.

–

Expedition #1, February 3rd – 6th 2018

The first team of explorers includes:

Lorenzo Barbasetti di Prun, creator of the project.

Angelica Stimpfl, presswoman and engraver with great cognizance of food. She tells stories that seem to come from a different time, and cooks fatty dishes of the Trentino Region tradition, with a little something added to them.
She builds tree houses and plans to repopulate her birth village in the Non Valley.

Giulia Fassina
Brilliant photographer and videomaker. Friend and travel companion, I could not think of a better person to document this endeavour. Not least of all because she probably would have held a grudge if I hadn’t asked her. Very picky and wary in the dietary field: it will be a lot of fun to have her taste whatever we’re going to concoct.

Matteo Ghigino
Young chef from Sardinia (more specifically Carloforte) with a great talent. He has taught me the majority of what I know, and most of all to eat leaves. Colleague and companion in adventures tethering on the edge of food poisoning. He has a blog about wild and forgotten foods. We work together on the AmiDO project, which gathers chef and producers of local delicacies..

Peak – INTHEMOUNTAINS
Saturday April 1st 2017 – Progettoborca Open-studio
2 – 8 PM, former Eni Village, Borca di Cadore (BL)

On Saturday, April 1st 2017, Dolomiti Contemporanee proposes an Open-studio at the Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building) of the former Eni Village of Borca di Cadore.
During the course of the afternoon, two works in particular will be showcased: Peak, by Nicolò Degiorgis, and INTHEMOUNTAINS, by Giorgio Orbi.

The collaboration between Museion and DC icludes the presentation of the Peak artist in Borca.
The magazine will be installed onto a structure inside the woods around the Colonia.

The pictures of the peaks follow one another, brought together two by two – from the absolute blackness of the night views to the blinding brightness of the snowy summits – recounting the principle of cyclicality that governs the lives of the mountains.

INTHEMOUNTAINS is a project with a wide scope, which gathers many of Giogio Orbi‘s experiences in regards to alpinism, and brings them to Borca.

It’s a series of operations that take part in the Dolomites of the Cadore area, and inside the neighbouring territories through different mediums, and which give shape to an organic kind of reflection.

INTHEMOUNTAINS ponders over the role of the artist and of the evolutionary dialogue that they intend to prompt with the mountain and its landscape. An essential role to depict and welcome the transformations and mutations of the contemporary mountain.

Mountains look so beautiful that once you start looking at them you can’t stop. A glance lasts only a moment but it takes part of the whole metamorphosis.

The title of the project comes from a section of the poem The Waste Land, by T. S. Eliot, written in 1922.

Thanks to the newly forged collaboration between H-FARM and Progettoborca in August the Digital Summer Camp […]

Thanks to the newly forged collaboration between H-FARM and Progettoborca in August the Digital Summer Camp is moving inside the former Eni Village.

During the two Camping weeks, kids aged 10 to 15 will become the main leads of the Village itself, and will be called to explore, enhance and reinvent it. A wonderful occasion, this one, to experiment with the tools of the digitals, while interacting with art and nature.

Through activities of geocaching those taking place in the Camp will make direct contact with the location, and will discover its secrets and stories. Like small artisans, they’ll dabble in the process of guided artistic creation, letting the surrounding setting inspire them and collaborating with the artists currently taking part in the Residency program. Here they’ll tinker, create 3D models, learn to use simple electronic components (LittleBits) able to connect the physical and virtual worlds, or will have fun recreating the environment around them in the virtual world of Minecraft.

For two weeks, then, kids and young adults will have the opportunity to live a unique experience, in touch with nature and dedicated to experimentation and discovery.

In July, the association Archim – Archivists in Movement – will be present in the Colonia […]

In July, the association Archim – Archivists in Movement – will be present in the Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building) of Borca, where, from July the 18th through the 24th, it will lead a week of summer school. Those who will take part in the workshop are going to organize an asset of documents recovered in the Colonia, this huge archive of the past which, every day, returns stories, memories, and all kinds of materials that, through the practices of order and creativity, are taken away from the dust and reprocessed instead.
The retrieval of the documentary asset, other than bringing back to light an archival heritage never before organized, will also involve several artists currently taking part in the residency program in Borca with Dolomiti Contemporanee: a creative order, then, and, as always, a twining of fluxes.

The objective of the summer school, thus, isn’t limited to the mere archival technique, but aims instead to the creation, during the week of stay, of a professional and human network that is both stimulating and striving for improvement, in the mesmerizing cultural context of the former Eni VIllage and Progettoborca.

The scientific coordinator of the summer school is Francesco Antonion, cofounder of the Virginia Associated Studio, which mostly deals with contemporary and business archives, as well as the design and handling of documentary, management, enhancement and industrial heritage safeguard fluxes.

Workshop in Borca di Cadore – Truth and method of an isolated mind

July the 16th through the 23rd
Curated by: Simone Cametti
Directed to the students of the RUFA Academy of Rome

Training people through relations and direct experience. By using theoretical tools and an approach open to active dialogue and confrontation, this workshop has the aim to lead its pupils to the development of a higher understanding and depth of thought on the usage of the “site specific” artistic practice, learning to face all the theoretical and practical matters which involve it on a relevant level. From being able to adjust the formal perfomance of the piece to its conceptual side, designing an installative project in all its parts, to being able to account its characteristics in the writing of a short synopsis. From doing research on the contents of a location to the adaptation of that experience to one’s own path of artistic research.
The teacher will have the pupils design and develop the pieces inside the Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building) in the former Eni Village of Corte di Cadore; an extraordinary and unique site in Italy, in which the relationship between the strong aspects of the natural landscape and environment fuse together in a spectacular fashion via architecture and practices, keeping the relationship betwen history and action as a focal point.
The workshop will thus be focused on the idea of site specific art, but will favour the most abstract and less tangible side of things, having the pupils interact in a context where thoughts and ideas are the focal point of the finished work, rather than materials.

Benedetto Croce, in his Compendium of Aesthetics, interprets the artwork as a kind of “lyrical intuition”, noticeably set apart from a second phase of its own, which is nothing but its translation into a medium, that is to say a material, physical vessel, part of the world and of one or several techniques.
Then the artwork, from this perspective, is something private, something that happens in the mind of the artist before it takes a shape distinguishable for our senses via its own means.
If Croce speaks of indentity of intuition and expression, it still means the expression not as material means, but as the linguistic shape that the piece inevitably takes in light of its being conceived inside the mind, thus setting this mental medium apart from the material one.

Here a list of the participants:
Sara Carmignani, Elena Castiglia, Priscilla Contesini, Chiara Fantaccione, Alessio Ferri, Bruno Lorenzon, Livia Oliveti, Giulia Saccà, Elisa Selli, Daniele Sciacca.

During the course of 2016 a partnership between Dolomiti Contemporanee (DC) and the Foundation for the Study of Titian and the Cadore has begun. The collaboration is now being actualized with the initiative curated by DC inside the context of the Summer of Titian, whose 2016 theme is “Patches and Gardens“.

On Saturday July the 9th, 2016, then, starting from 8 PM, the new Open-Studio by Progettoborca will take place. The public will thus be able to visit some of the main structures of the former Eni Village of Borca di Cadore where, for the past two years, DC has been leading a platform of regeneration of the extrordinary compound, built in the tail end of the 50s and based on a project by Edoardo Gellner, thanks to Enrico Mattei’s vision. The Village is at the centre of an experimental program of identity redefinition and unification - Progettoborca - which is developed by DC in collaboration with Minoter, the business that currently owns the site.

On Saturday, July the 9th, starting from 3 PM, it will be possible to explore the huge Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building) first, then the Church of Our Lady of the Cadore. During the visit to the Colonia, some artworks realized through the Artist Residency program active in the village will be presented; their underlying theme will be “Patches and Gardens”. Some teachers and students from the Fine Arts Academy of Venice are involved in this artistic endeavour.

In conjunction with the Cadore’s Culture Week, Saturday, May the 14th 2016 Progettoborca hosts a new Open-Studio.

The tour will allow for the access inside the Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building), overall the largest structure of the Village (30.000 square meters), abandoned for about 25 years, and now pivot of a recovery program launched by Dolomiti Contemporanee and Minoter in 2014. The public will thus be able to discover this frozen architectural giant, which today houses a lively artistic and artistic hub, and whose future purposes are being envisioned.

Thanks to the visit, it will thus be possible to retrace the unique backgound of this site, wanted by Enrico Mattei and realized by Edoardo Gellner, so important in the history of cultural and business innovation in Italy. And it will also be possible to dwell on the pieces realized by the artists currently taking part in the Residency program active inside the Village, discovering the active labs in the compound.

The Open-Studio will be held from 3 to 5 PM.

After the tours, visitors will be able to reach the Church of Our Lady of the Cadore (Edoardo Gellner/Carlo Scarpa).

Participation is free of charge.

—

The Cadore’s Culture Week is taking place between the 7th and 15th of May, and is promoted by the Magnifica Comunità di Cadore together with the Cadore’s Dolomites’ Museum Network, in collaboration with the Veneto Region, the Tiziano and Cadore Study Centre Foundation, the GAL Altobellunese, the Belluno Province, the Philological Society of the Friuli and the Archaeological Group of the Cadore.

The Colonia, unplugged ever since ’91, now glows again. Photo by Giacomo De Donà

On Saturday, October the 24th, at 9 PM, Dolomiti Contemporanee presents a special event: the first overnight visit to the Colonia of the former Eni VIllage of Borca di Cadore. The Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building) has been alive again for a year, now. More and more so as times goes on, too, thanks to the activities, the projects and the enhancing and refunctionalising strategies activated through the Progettoborca platform. But a year ago, the Colonia was in shambles. The vandals had tormented it for years, breaking in at night, shattering hundreds of glass surfaces and messing with the furniture and original pieces by Gellner that, to this day, fill its spaces. Today, everything has changed, and the Colonia is a huge active location, culturally and creatively, which lives the Space, and makes it live too, while it works for the envisioning of future destinations.

Electricity was missing, in the incredible, tentacular building, ever since 1991. Now it’s come back, DC has turned the Auditorium back on, the central body of the huge organism still in its place: when the Sun goes down, you can see it shine from the Alemagna State Highway. And we’ve given light back to other parts, too: every day, a part of the Colonia is taken back from darkness and oblivion.

And thus, on Saturday, it will be possible to visit some parts of the Colonia, with their nighttime layout. The appointment is set at 9 PM, at the offices of Dolomiti Contemporanee at the Village. It’s necessary to carry a light source (headtorch, flashlight). The accessible spaces of the Colonia, incredibly suggestive at night, will be open to the public until 11 PM. An unprecedented view of this exceptional Space.
It will be possible to access the Colonia on Sunday, October the 25th as well, with the appointment set at 3 PM, once again at DC‘s offices.

Everyone will then move to the Lower Cabin of the Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building), where the Press Conference will take place. Here, the projects and schedule of the summer-autumn season of DC will be presented, relating to both Borca and Casso (Nuovo Spazio di Casso), to the International Artistic Contest Two calls for Vajont, to the new sites (Paper Factory of Vas) and to the new active collaborations. The TERRAFORMAZIONE Communication Campaign by Fabio Balcon of Bra_ba_m will also be presented. Some never-before-seen artworks, realised in the last few weeks by the artists taking part in the Residency program in Borca, will also be shown.
