On Thursday, June the 22nd 2017 a study day will be carried out at the Milan […]

On Thursday, June the 22nd 2017 a study day will be carried out at the Milan Polytechnic, with the title:
ATVB Agip Tourist Village Borca – Understanding and enhancing Edoardo Gellner’s Eni Village in Corte di Cadore.
curated by Stefania Varvaro and Rossana Garbaglio.
Gamma Conference Hall, Viam Ampère 2, Milan Polytechnic.

Dolomiti Contemporanee will take part in it with a speech by Gianluca D’Incà Levis, curator of Progettoborca.

The study day puts the focus on one of Edoardo Gellner’s most renown architectural creations. The Eni Village in Borca di Cadore is definitely the most important work that Gellner had the good fortune of realizing as per the unyielding will of Enrico Mattei, president of Eni and essential figure for the understanding of the Village’s design, and for Italy as a whole on the tail end of the 50s and the first half of the 60s. The Village represents, because of its huge scope, an exceptional field of architectural and landscape experimentation in a period of time in which architecture approaches the theme of the mountain as a wole, and interprets the elements of tradition building.

The study day will be developed in two sessions:
the first one aims to investigate the characteristics of the former Eni Village, giving it historical context and documenting its planning richness;
the second one means to tackle the theme of the Colonia’s (Eng.: summer camp building) reusage from different perspectives. The biggest structure of the village deserves a specific reflection for the relaunching of possible future outlines.

Thanks to the newly forged collaboration between H-FARM and Progettoborca in August the Digital Summer Camp is moving inside the former Eni Village.

During the two Camping weeks, kids aged 10 to 15 will become the main leads of the Village itself, and will be called to explore, enhance and reinvent it. A wonderful occasion, this one, to experiment with the tools of the digitals, while interacting with art and nature.

Through activities of geocaching those taking place in the Camp will make direct contact with the location, and will discover its secrets and stories. Like small artisans, they’ll dabble in the process of guided artistic creation, letting the surrounding setting inspire them and collaborating with the artists currently taking part in the Residency program. Here they’ll tinker, create 3D models, learn to use simple electronic components (LittleBits) able to connect the physical and virtual worlds, or will have fun recreating the environment around them in the virtual world of Minecraft.

For two weeks, then, kids and young adults will have the opportunity to live a unique experience, in touch with nature and dedicated to experimentation and discovery.

From the 1st through the 6th of August, Progettoborca will host the architecture workshop Abitare condiviso (Shared living). The workshop will be held thanks to the collaboration between Dolomiti Contemporanee, Casabella Training and ProviaggiArchitettura.
A workshop set inside the environment, in which architects come today to what used to be a huge and innovative historical “contruction site” of modernist social architecture, bringing with it its own contribution to Progettoborca‘s regenerative platform.
And, in the 1950s, the Villaggio Borca was wanted by, most of all, Enrico Mattei, a great business strategist and authentic architect of shared habitation.
In the Colonia Montana di Borca‘s extraordinary venture, conceived by Mattei and designed by Edoardo Gellner, the Eni populace lived a new experience of aggregation, socalising, and welfare for decades, the likes of which Italy hadn’t experienced yet, back then.

The workshop’s speakers are going to be Edoardo Narne, Simone Sfriso (with TAMassociati curator of the Italian Pavillion at the Architecture Biennale of Venice 2016), Gianluca D’Incà Levis, Roberto Bosi, Michele Merlo (Gellner Studio).
The workshop is open to architects: taking part in it guarantees the awarding of 12 professional credit points by CNAPPC.

Here the programme [ITA].

In July, the association Archim – Archivists in Movement – will be present in the Colonia (Eng.: […]

In July, the association Archim – Archivists in Movement – will be present in the Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building) of Borca, where, from July the 18th through the 24th, it will lead a week of summer school. Those who will take part in the workshop are going to organize an asset of documents recovered in the Colonia, this huge archive of the past which, every day, returns stories, memories, and all kinds of materials that, through the practices of order and creativity, are taken away from the dust and reprocessed instead.
The retrieval of the documentary asset, other than bringing back to light an archival heritage never before organized, will also involve several artists currently taking part in the residency program in Borca with Dolomiti Contemporanee: a creative order, then, and, as always, a twining of fluxes.

The objective of the summer school, thus, isn’t limited to the mere archival technique, but aims instead to the creation, during the week of stay, of a professional and human network that is both stimulating and striving for improvement, in the mesmerizing cultural context of the former Eni VIllage and Progettoborca.

The scientific coordinator of the summer school is Francesco Antonion, cofounder of the Virginia Associated Studio, which mostly deals with contemporary and business archives, as well as the design and handling of documentary, management, enhancement and industrial heritage safeguard fluxes.

Workshop in Borca di Cadore – Truth and method of an isolated mind

July the 16th through the 23rd
Curated by: Simone Cametti
Directed to the students of the RUFA Academy of Rome

Training people through relations and direct experience. By using theoretical tools and an approach open to active dialogue and confrontation, this workshop has the aim to lead its pupils to the development of a higher understanding and depth of thought on the usage of the “site specific” artistic practice, learning to face all the theoretical and practical matters which involve it on a relevant level. From being able to adjust the formal perfomance of the piece to its conceptual side, designing an installative project in all its parts, to being able to account its characteristics in the writing of a short synopsis. From doing research on the contents of a location to the adaptation of that experience to one’s own path of artistic research.
The teacher will have the pupils design and develop the pieces inside the Colonia (Eng.: summer camp building) in the former Eni Village of Corte di Cadore; an extraordinary and unique site in Italy, in which the relationship between the strong aspects of the natural landscape and environment fuse together in a spectacular fashion via architecture and practices, keeping the relationship betwen history and action as a focal point.
The workshop will thus be focused on the idea of site specific art, but will favour the most abstract and less tangible side of things, having the pupils interact in a context where thoughts and ideas are the focal point of the finished work, rather than materials.

Benedetto Croce, in his Compendium of Aesthetics, interprets the artwork as a kind of “lyrical intuition”, noticeably set apart from a second phase of its own, which is nothing but its translation into a medium, that is to say a material, physical vessel, part of the world and of one or several techniques.
Then the artwork, from this perspective, is something private, something that happens in the mind of the artist before it takes a shape distinguishable for our senses via its own means.
If Croce speaks of indentity of intuition and expression, it still means the expression not as material means, but as the linguistic shape that the piece inevitably takes in light of its being conceived inside the mind, thus setting this mental medium apart from the material one.

Here a list of the participants:
Sara Carmignani, Elena Castiglia, Priscilla Contesini, Chiara Fantaccione, Alessio Ferri, Bruno Lorenzon, Livia Oliveti, Giulia Saccà, Elisa Selli, Daniele Sciacca.

From the 25th to the 27th of August, the Summer Camp of M.a.c.Lab was carried out […]

From the 25th to the 27th of August, the Summer Camp of M.a.c.Lab was carried out in Borca, in collaboration with Progetto Iccs [ITA].
The workshop has involved teachers and postdoctoral students, in three days of life/work at the Eni Village of Borca di Cadore, where DC has lauched, a few months ago, in collaboration with the Minoter-Cualbu Group, owner of the site, ProgettoBorca (BorcaProject), cultural “construction site” through which the meaning of this location today is being re-thought, regenerating its potential.
We’s like to remind that Gianluca D’Incà Levis, curator of DC, is one of the holders of a research grant of M.a.c.lab.

Landscape Stories curates a photographic workshop at the Eni Village, dedicated to the photographical observation of the Dolomites‘ territory, in its shapes and in its stories.

The workshop will come alive from the 29th to the 31st of August 2014, at the Hotel Boite of Borca di Cadore, and will be held by the photographer Vincenzo Castella.

The workshop is has a limited enrollment quota, and will be activated with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 participants. The signing up period will end on August the 7th, 2014.
Identity, document, sedimentation of the traces.
Reflections on the cultural concept of nature and landscape, genius loci, signs of anthropization of the places. The building of a tale recounted by images (preparation of the shoot, choosing the pov and the angle, considerations over the process, the time and method…). Indentity and vision: observation of the urban and natural images. Conflict-Experience-Progress as representation of the photograph’s itinerary as main language of reference.

From the 25th to the 27th of July 2014 Internofoto [ITA] organises a photography of architecture residential workshop inside the ENI Village of Corte di Cadore. The exceptional scenery of the Village, its achitecture, design and landscape, will the be subject to be portrayed.
Internofoto offers to those whom will decide to take part in the workshop the possibility of meeting and interpreting the architecture of this place, and to learn the architectural photography technical fundamentals on the premises, thanks to the theoric and practical lessons of a professional photographer. With a three-day “immersion” among the works of Edoardo Gellner, Interfoto proposes to experience and come to know first-hand one of the most interesting projects of the Italian Twentieth Century, standing by the belief that architecture is a communal patrimony, which has to be touched and explored, an active part of our daily life.
